THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES -

The Medical Assistant Program is designed so that upon completion the “M.A.” will relieve the doctors of most detail work and routine responsibility thus freeing them to make their diagnosis by concentration on some of the in formation the Medical Assistant has previously gathered and their own physical findings. This enables the doctors to give superior care to an increased number of patients.

It should be understood the “MA” is not a Medical Lab Technologist, X-Ray Technician, Physical Therapist, RN or medical secretary. The Medical Assistant is, rather, more important to the doctors and their offices possessing, as they do, the knowledge in several fields to serve the doctors in a proficient manner. This program is intended to provide an entry-level education to those who possess a High School Diploma or its equivalency. Credit may be granted for previous programs attended after submission of the appropriate documentation from an institution which is Accredited by an agency recognized by the USDOE or CHEA and review by the Academy. No test-out procedures are used. No distance learning is offered.

 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION -

The brief description listed is meant to show the wide scope of the program of instruction, which allows “DVA” graduates to work not only in private physicians’ offices and Medical Centers, but also in hospitals, laboratories, clinics, and the Armed Forces. Inquire at the Placement Assistance Office for examples of the varied types of job opportunities available to Delaware Valley Academy graduates through our Job Placement Assistance Program.

 MAJOR EQUIPMENT -

The Medical Assistant classrooms resemble a general medical office setting with such equipment as examination tables, physical therapy units, EKG machines, surgical trays, instruments, and supply cabinets stocked with the basic equipment utilized by most practicing physicians. The laboratory areas are equipped with microscopes and the necessary supplies for venipuncture and basic chemical analysis testing. The front office area includes typewriters, computers, teletrainers and a varied supply of office and insurance forms. Lectures, and audio/visual presentations are also conducted in the Medical Assistant classrooms.
